Disruption of Care Troubling for Pennsylvania Patients
The Pennsylvania Medical Society says that results of a 10-year study that suggests a high turnover rate among Pennsylvania specialists are troubling for Pennsylvania patients.
According to the report, published in the April edition of the journal "Health Affairs," many specialties saw a 10-20 percent decline in doctors practicing in Pennsylvania each year throughout the study period.
"This high turnover rate simply is not good for patients, especially those with chronic diseases," said Mark Piasio, MD, MBA, president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society. "The disruption of care as a result of the revolving Pennsylvania health care door does not leave these patients in the most desirable situation."
Trends suggest health care demand is growing at a faster rate than the supply of available patient care-based physicians.
