Physicians Answer Medical Questions in Doctors on Call Program

Physician members of the Pennsylvania Medical Society fielded health care questions and concerns from more than 300 callers on Wednesday, March 12, as part of the Medical Society’s public service program "Doctors on Call." The program, in its sixth year, aired from 5 to 6:30 PM on WGAL.

The 26 physician volunteers answered anonymous health-related questions on everything from chronic pain to MRSA and offered information about free- and low-cost health clinics to patients without insurance. They were equipped with a resource guide of nearby community health centers.

"The Pennsylvania Medical Society strongly believes a good relationship between patients and doctors is essential to the healing process," said Peter S. Lund, MD, president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.  "The ‘Doctors on Call’ program offers a wonderful opportunity to help patients who might otherwise avoid or have no access to a physician."

Physician volunteers were: Arlene S. Bobonich, MD; Paul F. Dende, DO; John P. Bart, DO; Bridget F. Berich, DO; John D. Goldman, MD; Keith R. Haidet, MD; Virginia Hall, MD; John J. Messmer, MD; R. Scott Owens, MD, Urology; James A. Yates, MD; Alvise Fileno Bernabei, MD; Paul S. Brown, Jr.; David H. Emmert, MD; Laura H. Fisher, MD; Christopher L. Hager, MD; William T. Monacci, MD; Michael Pavlica, MD; Karen A. Rizzo, MD; Gerald Rothacker, Jr., MD; Thomas R. Westphal, MD; Christopher A. Woodard, MD; Musaddiq N. Nazeeri, MD; Donald M. Potter, MD; Michael J. Yeager, MD; Jeffrey H. Chaby, DO; and Conrad H. Knudson, MD.

The State Society is planning another "Doctors on Call" event in Philadelphia in September.
